IGCSE Programme Overview

The IGCSE environment at Symbiosis International School is enthusiastic and energetic with a diversity of choices aimed at fulfilling the school’s mission of providing a well-rounded education. We place an emphasis on academic rigour and a pastoral system which offers strong support and encourages students to do their best, to meet challenges and develop independence.

Students joining in IGCSE1 (Grade9) follow a two-year programme leading to the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and appear for the exam at end of IGCSE 2 (Grade 10). The subjects available to IGCSE students have been selected with the intention of providing a broad and balanced curriculum, which provides an excellent foundation for the IB Diploma programme.

The school day runs from 8.15 AM until 3.15 PM.

  • Develop oral and practical skills.
  • Develop an investigative approach to learning.
  • Use initiative to solve everyday & academic problems.
  • Apply skills, knowledge and understanding to practical situations.
  • Undertake individual projects and learn to work as part of a team.
  • Become more effective as independent learners.
Symbiosis International School is non-selective and thus recognizes that a percentage of the student body will have different educational needs at some stage in their school career.  Once a student is identified as needing extra support with their learning, a thorough assessment of needs is made, either in school or with the support of outside agencies, and appropriate interventions are planned. We like to work closely with parents and guardians to support the needs of every child.

Symbiosis International School’s academic staff is fully qualified and experienced in their respective fields. They bring with them a wealth of experience. Symbiosis International School is committed to providing staff with opportunities for professional development and enables staff to stay up-to-date with developments in education with a comprehensive, on-going training programme. Experts are frequently invited to lead or advise the staff development sessions and our teachers regularly participate in courses, conferences and inter-school visits. We also support teachers who undertake study for further qualifications.

The ubiquitous use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) makes confident, creative and productive use of ICT an essential skill for life. In addition to mastering technical skills, IGCSE students also learn to apply these skills purposefully, safely and responsibly. They use ICT as a tool to enrich their learning experience across the curriculum.

At Symbiosis, all classrooms have Wi-Fi internet access and are equipped with ceiling mounted projectors. Students, teachers and parents have their own password-protected areas of the school website where they can access information and communicate with staff. Teachers are committed to ensuring the engagement of students in their learning and use ICT to support this aim.

A team of dedicated staff work to ensure that students are able to use technology in an efficient, safe and transparent way to fully realize the benefits of a 21st century education so that they become confident and well prepared for participation and engagement in modern society.
