General Rules And Regulations

Identity Cards

  • Identity Card is mandatory for students/ parents/ drivers whilst on campus and in the school bus.
  • It is necessary for students and parents to take proper care of these cards as they play a vital role in the school security.
  • If the card is lost / misplaced, please report to the Home Room Facilitator immediately. In the event of any change in email, telephone or mobile numbers, an extra charge is levied for printing of new ID card.
  • ID card is mandatory for the parents visiting the school for any function and for child pickup. Without the ID (parent/student/driver) cards entry inside the school premises will be prohibited.
  • Duplicate ID card/ multiple copies of Transcripts & Duplicate Transfer Certificates are chargeable.

School Attendance Policy

  • To achieve the goals and objectives of the curriculum, regular attendance by the student is mandatory. It is also mandatory to attend all classes and activities predefined in each student's daily time table. Attendance on the first day and last day of the school for each term is mandatory.
  • When a student is absent from school, his/her parent (s) should mail the Homeroom Facilitator

Dress Code/School Uniform

  • Students must dress in a manner that reflects self-respect and enhances respect for the SIS community.
  • Students are expected and required to wear clothing that is neat, clean, fits well and is properly worn.
  • Any type of attire that is obscene and attracts undue attention is not acceptable.
  • The students are required to be neatly dressed, during school hours, school trips and official gatherings.
  • The shirt must be tidy and neatly tucked in.
  • For Girls - the length of the skirts must be no higher than 3 inches from the center of the knee cap.
  • For Boys - Trousers should not be worn very low at the waist.
  • Only prescribed gray colored cardigans/ blazers as per school regulations, may be worn in school.

The uniform must reflect respect for the institution which fosters an environment contributing to educational values.

Personal Appearance

  • Students are expected to dress neatly, appropriately, be clean, and well groomed.
  • Clothing and hair must be neat and tidy.
  • Earrings for girls only, if worn, are either to be studs or small rings. Expensive earrings are not allowed.
  • Make-up and lip gloss of any kind is not allowed in school. Vaseline could be used in case of dry and chapped lips.
  • Girls with hair longer than shoulder length must plait it. No ponytails or loose hair will be permitted. All girls must wear a black hair-band to keep their hair pulled back.
  • Parents are requested to ensure a proper dress code for their children in public places, to avoid disheveled dressing, and should inculcate habits of correct dress.
  • Students are not allowed to be on the campus in sandals, slippers, floaters etc.

Punctuality

  • All students from PYP1 to DP2 will report to school every day before 8:00 am.
  • For students from EY1 to EY3 & SEN, reporting time is 8:15 am to 8:30 am.
  • It is essential that you ensure that your child arrives at school on time to prevent disruption to your child’s own learning and that of others. Punctuality is a life skill that they need to develop whilst they are young.
  • All students are expected to be on time for all classes and other school organized activities. A student who is late must report to the teacher in charge and offer an explanation for the delay.
  • We understand that there may be rare occasions when you are unavoidably late due to unforeseen circumstances. On these occasions please make sure that you contact the school office to inform us when you will arrive either at frontdesk@sis.ac.in or call at 26557300/ 26501107 latest by 8:10 am. Uninformed delay / Habitual Late entry will result in disciplinary action.
  • Kindly consider traffic congestion/rains and plan your arrival time accordingly.

Personal belongings

  • Personal belongings are a sole responsibility of the student. The school is not accountable for any items misplaced/lost by students.
  • In compliance with safety and for ease of identification the students are requested to label/engrave all their personal items with their name.
  • The school accepts no responsibility for items left unattended in the common areas of the school.
  • Students are strictly forbidden from bringing in prohibited items.

List of prohibited articles and substances

  • Toy or replica guns, knives, pets, chewing, gums, unnecessary valuables eg: cash, jewellery etc. Alcoholic beverages, cigarettes/tobacco, fireworks, Holi colours, drugs.
  • Pornographic material, I pods or any other objectionable material.

Student's Personal lockers

  • Every student admitted at SIS is provided with a cubbyhole /locker to store personal belongings.
  • IGCSE and DP students are provided with lockers and keys.
  • The school will not be responsible for any loss or theft of personal belongings. In case of loss of keys, the student will be charged Rs. 200 and a new set of keys will be handed over.
  • For any damage or breakage of personal lockers, the student will have to pay at actuals for the repairs/maintenance carried out.

Lost and Found Cell

  • At SIS we expect students to take care / be responsible for their belongings.
  • Any items/belongings of the students found in the school will be delivered at the lost and found cell.
  • Please contact the front desk for such items.
  • Theft is considered a serious crime and any member of the SIS community found guilty will be permanently expelled. In such circumstances, SIS may involve civil authorities to dwell upon the issue if required. The decision made by the Director is final.

Out of Bounds

In accordance with safety issues, the students are not permitted to move about in certain areas of the campus unless accompanied by a teacher. This includes the PE store, Science labs and ICT Labs, Facilitators' room and Thespian's Room, the boarding houses other than his/her own, the maintenance department, kitchen and store rooms and also all service areas like the canteen and changing rooms.

Leaving School

  • In compliance with safety, the students are warned against leaving the campus, sports venue and CAS venue during school hours.
  • A written permission from the Director, Coordinator or the faculty in absence of the Director is mandatory.

Detention

It is one of the sanctions that schools can use on disciplinary grounds. Teachers may assign classroom detentions therefore for inappropriate behaviour. Regular school detention that is organized on a rotational basis by teachers can be instituted if a majority of faculty considers it helpful.

Suspension and expulsion*

These are serious matters to be addressed in accordance with established school procedures. The Director or the Senior Management Team member who is in-charge of the school in his/her absence has the authority to suspend or expel a student. Both are used in moderation and would usually result if the student has demonstrated continuous disregard of school rules, for which other means of discipline have proven ineffectual.* Please refer to the discipline policy & MoU.

Wanton Damage, Repair & Renewal

Wanton damage to school property will be borne by the parent.
To compensate for the heavy irresponsible damage by students throughout the year, “Repairs and Renewals” charges will be levied. The school property must be handled with utmost care. Students who deface or damage school property or the property of others will have to make financial restitution. If an individual is not identified, then the same will be charged to the entire group of the pupils involved.

Student Driving and Parking

SIS permits only DP students to drive cars or bikes which are licensed and insured. It is essential for students driving these vehicles to hold a valid driving license. It is mandatory for students riding two-wheelers to wear helmets. Permission of the Director is liable for every student getting their vehicle to school. Pillion driving is strictly prohibited. Students who endanger themselves or others will be prohibited from bringing their vehicles to school. With relevance to safety, boarders are strictly forbidden from bringing a motorized vehicle to school.

PDA (Public Display of Affection)

PDA is not permitted in school. Students indulging in indecent public behavior will be severely dealt with.

Meals

  • Brunch, lunch, and snacks are provided to students on campus.
  • All students must have their meals as per the schedule allocated and take a reasonable portion of the meal offered.
  • Wasting of food is unacceptable. Students are strictly prohibited to eat in classrooms unless specifically permitted by the teachers.
  • Students must line up in an orderly manner in the cafeteria to maintain safety and discipline.

School Discipline

  • A strict code of conduct needs to be followed to develop a sense of responsibility and discipline amongst the students.
  • All students are expected to cooperate and strictly abide by the policies of the school. It involves self-discipline, respect, courtesy towards others and impeccable behaviour. Therefore, any student who shows disrespect, or continually disregards the school rules or the directions of a teacher will be penalized for his/her actions.

IT Rules and Regulations

SIS encourages students to make the best use of all the technological facilities furnished by the school to shape their academic performance. The proper use of the Internet is a combined responsibility of students, parents/guardians and staff at the school and they should understand the significance of the educational value to be gained from it. Appropriate planning and management that recognizes the risks can ensure accurate, effective and safe use of the Internet.

  • All students and their parents are liable to sign an undertaking that the students will use the systems responsibly and according to the laws of the Government of India. In particular:
  • Students will not attempt to gain unauthorized to access to any other computer system or go beyond the school authorized to access account. This includes attempting to log in through another person's account or access another person's files.
  • Students will not access or download material from inappropriate sites or pass such material to other students. Students will not bring any material that the school finds unsuitable or objectionable.
  • The school reserves the right to monitor the use of computers by its students within its network by any reasonable means. Students found misusing the system will face severe consequences which may result in confiscation of laptops, denial of access to the system, penalty or expulsion from the school depending on the gravity of the offence.

SIS encourages all its students to practice academic honesty. An authentic piece of work is based on your individual and original ideas with the ideas of others fully acknowledged.
