Technology @ SIS
In Symbiosis International School, technology inspires creativity and innovation, as a leading international school in the country, we support continuous inquiry and foster collaboration. Technology also enhances the learning and academic achievements of our students. We bring the latest advancements to keep their levels of information literacy always elevated. Integrating technology into education helps our students develop critical thinking skills and manage complexity. All members of SIS community use technology in an ethical and responsible manner.
We understand and respect the use of technology across academic, social and personal contexts. Considered by many as the best school in Pune, SIS has been a laptop school since 2006, it now embraces mobile and tablet devices. We empower students to act safely, participate ethically and think critically in their digital lives. Our curriculum integrates digital life practices throughout the grade levels. We address cyber-bullying, website accuracy evaluation, sources citation, and safe online behaviour. We apply age-appropriate contexts to help students practice the learning in real life.
Application and Systems:
- MySchool - We use this web-based integrated student information and management system for student admissions, student attendance, student reporting, and scheduling. It is also a repository for documents and disseminates other school-related information like news, announcements, events, calendars and Web links.
- Turnitin - from the inception in 2005 we use this Anti-Plagiarism software for research purpose
- ManageBac - The IBDP uses this software for CAS administration.
- KOHA - This Library Management System provides library automation services encompassing cataloguing, circulation, inventory, and online public access catalogue capabilities. This software allows us to track patrons, titles, usage data, and collection development in order to optimize our services for students, teachers and families in the most cost-effective manner possible
- Other Educational Software - The school has a growing collection of educational software to facilitate the integration of technology in all subjects at the school.
Infrastructure:
Information Technology should promote active learning and allow teachers to share information efficiently. It should make managing things more effective for the administrators. Technology should empower timely communications between students, teachers, administrators and parents. Keeping these objectives in mind, the infrastructure set up at our school includes:
- High-Speed Network: Uses a 1000 Mbps LAN. Covers all instructional spaces, administration office, library, and other infrastructure.
- Heavy-duty Servers: A dedicated server cluster of 04 servers, powers and runs the entire network.
- Wireless Access: The 802.11 n wireless access standard ensures superior performance, reliability, and predictability. The modernized network offers up to six times more performance than legacy 802.11a/b/g networks. It supports the total mobility of multimedia and learning-critical applications.
- Internet: Two high-speed 90 Mbps Fiber links with a 2 Mbps wireless backup for the internet. Two different ISPs provide these point-to-point links
- User Policies: Responsible Use and Network Use Policies provide students and staff with the guidelines for the use of technology systems in the school.
Use of IT & Internet Policy
The school allocates access to the Internet on the basis of its didactic value. SIS encourages students to make the best use of all technological facilities furnished by the school to shape their academic performance.
The proper use of the Internet is a combined responsibility of students, parents/guardians and staff at the school and they should understand the significance of the educational value to be gained from it.
Appropriate planning and management that recognizes the risks can ensure the accurate, effective and safe use of the Internet. All students and their parents are liable to sign an undertaking that the students will use the systems responsibly and according to the laws of the Government of India. In particular, students will not attempt to gain unauthorized access to any other computer system or go beyond the school authorized access account. This includes attempting to log in through another person's account or access another person's files.
Students will not access or download material from inappropriate sites or pass such material to other students. Students will not bring any material that school finds unsuitable or objectionable. The school reserves the right to monitor the use of computers by its students within its network by any reasonable means. Students found misusing the system will face severe consequences which may result in confiscation of laptops, denial of access to the system, penalty or expulsion from the school depending on the gravity of the offence.
Plagiarism: At SIS, it is our priority to ensure that all students understand and respect the meaning and significance of academic honesty. It not only refers to original authorship and ownership of creative/research material but also to proper conduct in relation to written exams. Plagiarism, cheating and collusion in examinations are unacceptable and will be penalized.
Mobile Phones: Only the Students of the DP and IGCSE are permitted to possess a cell phone, however, the policies at school require that they are turned off and deposited with the Class Teacher during school hours. PYP and MYP are strictly prohibited from using or carrying mobile phones if found will be confiscated. Students are permitted to use their cell phones before and after school hours only.
It is not obligatory for students to possess mobile phones as the school holds an extensive network of landlines and fixed cellular services which can be utilized by Parents and Students.
